The situation
JYP Entertainment has partnered with Xiaomang, a Chinese media group, to expand its merchandise business in China. The collaboration aims to provide local fans with a more reliable way to purchase official merchandise. JYP's roster includes notable groups like TWICE, Stray Kids, and ITZY.

What the internet did with it

  • Netizens on Theqoo seem unbothered by the news, with some commenting on the potential for increased *사이다* (a sense of satisfaction or vindication) for fans who can now buy official merchandise more easily.
  • The partnership will leverage Xiaomang's user base of approximately 200 million and its connection to local OTT service Mango TV to distribute JYP merchandise in China.
  • — "I guess this means we'll see more JYP merch on Mango TV shows now"

boy story being included is so interesting. they haven't officially disbanded but they're inactive and will be for years.

I think the article just took the diplomatic approach and listed everyone officially signed to JYP or one of their joint interenational ventures... or tried to anyway, they left off dodree and CIIU even though Boy Story, Girlset, and the Epic Records groups. To me it's giving "pad the article to hit a word count when there's not much new information to share, but don't think to double-check if you missed anyone".

modyssey isn't there though. idk, it's just interesting which groups they listed, since you'd think the author would want to mention their chinese groups and boy story alone is a strange choice

Now that the US took back their THAADs does that mean kpop can be unbanned in China? 🤣

they've been working on lessening the korean entertainment ban for a while now, there have been discussions between south korea and china as well as an agreement to slowly start expanding cultural exchange. jyp has been slowly setting up infrastructure in china too. i'm interested in how this works with the "effeminate male ban" though
