The situation
IU has canceled her September concert at Goyang Stadium and postponed her domestic tour due to worsening symptoms of her chronic Patulous Eustachian tube dysfunction. Her upcoming sixth studio album, which has already been completed, will also be delayed as its promotion was tied to the concert and tour. IU apologized to fans, expressing her love and promising a diverse new album.

What the internet did with it

  • Netizens on Theqoo were generally understanding, with one comment reading — "she really said what we were all thinking and left" in regards to her honest explanation of her health struggles.
  • The room on Theqoo was relatively unbothered, with fans showing concern for IU's health and appreciation for her transparency about the situation, using phrases like *_ģ‚¬ģ“ė‹¤_* (a situation where someone tells the truth in a straightforward manner) to describe her announcement.
  • IU's determination to start 2027 together with fans has sparked anticipation, despite the lack of a new release date for the album.

The open question
The new release date for IU's sixth studio album remains unconfirmed, leaving fans wondering when they can expect the album to drop. *_눈치_* (the ability to read the atmosphere or situation) suggests that IU's team will announce a new date once her health improves, but no official statement has been made yet.

Hope she gets well soon - she’s been through it lately with the drama about the drama and break up etc

She works way too hard. Wouldn't be surprised if she was burnt out even without the ear issues.

She said in her post she wonders if she pushed herself too hard: To be honest, my chronic Eustachian tube dysfunction symptoms have been worsening recently. I am trying my best to manage and take care of it, but the weather seems to be having some influence... I also wonder if I pushed myself a bit too hard out of my ambition for work, without considering my condition for the past few years. My ear symptoms have always been erratic, fluctuating between good and bad, but recently, they have persisted day and night for days at a time, and I have repeatedly found it difficult to regain my form while singing.

She's also been doing a 'making of' doc around the album. All whilst having all these personal issues (she's nuts!). Not a great mix.

I imagine IEMs make eustachian issues 10x worse too.

Long explanation on her Berriz post. This is a condition she's had for years and managed but needs to continue to manage for her health and career for the rest of her life. That's what is most important. I'm still eagerly awaiting the album when the time is right.
