The situation
fromis_9 is releasing their second full-length album "Glow ME" after a three-year gap, with all members participating in song production. The album's theme revolves around self-discovery and growth through new experiences and heartbreak. "Vitamin ME" is the lead track, showcasing the group's fresh charm.

What the internet did with it

  • Netizens on Theqoo are generally unbothered, with some commenting on the group's bold decision to experiment with new genres, such as Afrobeat in the song "Teacher".
  • The album's tracklist, featuring 10 songs including "Cold Blood" and "Teacher", has piqued fans' interest, with members Lee Na-gyung and Lee Chae-young expressing their satisfaction with the results.
  • — "I'm looking forward to seeing how they'll pull off the Afrobeat genre, it's not every day you see a K-pop group trying something new like that and actually participating in the songwriting process, it's a big deal for them to be taking creative control like this."

The open question
The question remains how the new album will be received by the public, and whether fromis_9's experimentation with new genres will pay off in terms of commercial success and fan appreciation, especially given the group's history of lineup changes and their desire to create lasting memories with their fans.

Teacher really could've been the pre-release! it was an amazing afrobeats track. Pocket Treat's final chorus... I wish that was the chorus but the special part about it is that it's only in the end. This is such an amazing summer album, but people shouldn't go into it expecting music with the sounds of garage/R&B/electropop like Unlock My World. It's more pop rock/synthpop.

It doesn't get said enough as they're infamously Visual_9 but this album shows them equally as Vocals_9. Arguably one of the best full kpop albums I've heard in a while. It's cohesive, completely summer-y from song to song yet so much variety and vocal flavors.
