The situation
BTS' upcoming concerts in Chile have hit a snag after the National Sports Institute (IND) denied permission to use Estadio Nacional, citing concerns over the stadium's hybrid natural grass surface and upcoming sporting events. The concerts, part of the BTS World Tour Arirang 2026, were scheduled for October 14, 16, and 17. The IND's decision has thrown the event into uncertainty, with the future of the concerts now hanging in the balance.

What the internet did with it

  • Netizens on Theqoo are mostly unbothered, with some commenting that the IND's decision is reasonable given the stadium's condition and upcoming events — "it's not like they're canceling the concerts, just relocating them".
  • The proposed alternative venue, Explanada Sur (Parque Sur) area within the Estadio Nacional complex, has sparked debate among fans, with some questioning whether it can accommodate the group's 360-degree stage production and massive audience.
  • — "they better find a new venue that can handle the stage and crowd, or this is going to be a disaster"

The open question
The event organizers have yet to announce whether they will accept the proposed alternative venue or search for another stadium, leaving fans in limbo about the fate of the concerts. The key question now is whether a suitable replacement venue can be found that meets the technical demands of BTS' production and accommodates the sold-out crowd.

Such a strange move from the government. Not to mention there have been massive 360° stages there before. Apparently they offered a park as an alternative venue 💀 Just all-around embarrassing

From what I’ve read from Chilean discussion on this topic, BTS’ 360 stages are ~150% heavier and would actually ruin the grass as well as damage the “base” (foundation?). And, the promoter and Big Hit do not want to be financially responsible for the repairs. I’m surprised that ticket sales were allowed before the approval process finished months later. The sports minister said that the concert approval wasn’t technically retracted, because approval wasn’t given in the first place.

The approval was given by the same minister who is complaining now. What they want is more money now that the government changed .

So all of this mess is to protect… grass? Sorry but this is a bit ridiculous, no? Ijbol. BTS has held concerts in multiple stadiums with grass too, what is so special about this grass, I’m dying of curiosity pfft

If it damages the underlying foundation below the grass, that's a much bigger and more expensive fix than re-sodding the pitch

Live music is dependent on sports for venues. Sports will always be prioritized.
