The situation
BELIFT LAB has announced it will take legal action against malicious posts targeting ILLIT, citing a recent surge in insults, false information, and defamation. The agency emphasized that some members are minors and will not tolerate any violations of their rights. They have a monitoring system in place to collect evidence and will pursue criminal punishment for perpetrators.

What the internet did with it

  • Netizens on Theqoo seemed unbothered by the announcement, with some commenting that it's about time agencies take a harder stance on malicious comments.
  • The agency's "zero-tolerance policy" has been noted, with fans appreciating the proactive approach to protecting the artists' rights, especially considering the *_눈치 (nuhn-chi, or "social awareness" and ability to read the room)_* of the situation.
  • — "I'm glad they're taking this seriously, it's not just about the group's image but also the well-being of the members, especially the minors."

The open question
The specific timeline for the legal proceedings and how the agency plans to implement their "zero-tolerance policy" across different platforms remains unclear. BELIFT LAB has promised to provide updates on the progress of related legal actions, but for now, the details are scarce.

https://weverse.io/illit/notice/36966 First of all, nice to see kpop companies move on from the generic template and start detailing the cases they're focusing a bit more like this. Call it fan service if you will, but it's just better communication for fans. "We have recently detected attempts to plot physical harm targeting the artists through secret channels such as Telegram. We are taking all possible measures, including requesting cooperation from Telegram and relevant domestic authorities." Interesting point, they explicitly mention the TG group threat. Not sure what the outcome will be, but that was a really nasty one.
